My friend Jim Caldwell gave me

permission to use some of his incredible

photographs for my blog.  That’s one of his

photos I’ve used for my blog’s header.

Jim travels all over the world just shooting some

of the most interesting scenes you’ll ever see.

I’d like to dedicate this video

to these two special friends,

Anders Eriksson & Jim Caldwell,

whose help and inspiration

made my garden blog possible.

We do have very busy schedules,

but we have a very simple

(and sincere) way to convey our

appreciation to our friends.

Thank You For Being My Friend

I'd also like to extend this to all of my friends

IF YOU ARE AN AMERICAN CITIZEN,

DON’T LET ANYONE TELL YOU

THAT  YOU ARE DOWNTRODDEN!

We still live in the greatest country in the

world. The United States is the great

experiment in positive thinking; our entire

system of government is based upon faith in

the inherent goodness of the individual. It was

a revolutionary idea more than 200 years ago

when the Declaration of Independence was

first signed.  Borrowing from the greatest

thinkers in history, our founding fathers

established a form of government of the

people that is today the model most imitated

around the world.  Economic and political

conditions ebb and flow, but as long as we

have a democratic society that celebrates the

individual, we can achieve anything in life we

`

desire. All you require to be successful in the

United States is the desire to achieve success

and the determination to stick with it until

you reach your goals.

Planting Seeds Of Appreciation.

Let’s take some time out to thank our combat

troops who are finally returning home from

Iraq, and Afghanistan, also to remember

all the sacrifices that they, and their

families have made.  Please

remember also, all who gave the ultimate

sacrifice in the name of Freedom.

Keep those who stayed behind for training

purposes in your daily prayers.  Their job

will not be a safe nor an easy one.

See the beauty that all the diverse

people of our world are capable

of creating when we come together

and really put our minds to it.

We are all unique, and each one of us has

special gifts, and talents. Some of us just reach

out to develop them more than others.

Don’t Worry

May we all learn to find peace in our world.

To find it we must first learn to look for it.

This performance demonstrates what happens when some of the musicians from Stand By Me met and performed for the first time. This song was recorded and filmed live in New Orleans, and features Grandpa Elliot and Clarence Bekker on vocals. Thousands of people witnessed first hand the soul and conviction of these two men who help us all believe a change is going to come.

May I remind you every day, to give all street artists respect.  They are not bums, but the messengers of what life is really about. Sharing the ( good ) vibes.

Sugar Sweet

Grandpa Elliott

PlayingForChange

Grandpa Elliott Small, born Elliot Small in 1945, also known as Uncle Remus, is a street-musician in New Orleans, Louisiana. He plays the harmonica, sings, and is a street icon in New Orleans. He has been featured on Playing for Change in several episodes. His debut song with Playing for Change was “Stand by Me”.[1] He has also been on The Tonight Show[2] and The Colbert Report. He has been a street icon on Royal Street in the French Quarter and Jackson Square in New Orleans since moving from New York City back to his place of birth in the 60′s. He performed to a crowd of more than 40,000 at Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, California, on June 30, 2009, playing the “Star Spangled Banner” on harmonica and singing “God Bless America.” His debut solo album, Sugar Sweet, was released November 3, 2009.

Grandpa Elliott has been playing on the streets of New Orleans since he was six years old and it is time for his music and passion to meet the masses.  Playing For Change recorded his album, Sugar Sweet, throughout the 2009 Playing For Change Band North American Tour.  It all started one evening at a barbeque when he began tapping his foot, slapping his hand against his knee and singing, “Your lips is so dog gone sweet to me, baby I’m afraid, if you kissed the ocean it would turn to lemonade…” I remember thinking we could not get to a studio fast enough!

I love this man with all my heart for his soul, sweet voice and power of conviction.  He performs each song as if it was his last and puts every ounce of his giant heart into every note.  Check out the album, support a great performer, and let’s teach the world that some of the best music we have ever heard comes from the streets!!!  From the people, for the people.

PLAYING FOR CHANGE:

PEACE THROUGH MUSIC

PlayingForChange

From the award-winning documentary, “Playing For Change: Peace Through Music”, comes the first of many “songs around the world” being released independently. Featured is a cover of the Ben E. King classic by musicians around the world adding their part to the song as it traveled the globe.Music is the international language of the soul, it’s something that reaches us individually, has a different meaning for each of us, but binds us together as one.
